NC500: Day 3 – Gorgeous Gardens, Gorges, and an abandoned Castle!

Day 3 started off bright and early, having to pack up our tent and go find the nearest garage / shop to get more oil for my car, and breakfast for me and my dad.

We found oil, coffee, and breakfast at the tiny town of Kinlochewe. The next step was the absolutely gorgeous Inverewe Gardens.

Inverewe Gardens

I cannot recommend highly enough that you should go see these amazing gardens, we saw them in full bloom, and got thoroughly enchanted by all the flowers and trees.

Next stop, after cream tea, was Corrieshalloch Gorge National.

Let start this off by saying I don’t like heights! Luckily for me, we’re at a place with a easily 100m drop.

Not much to see here, it was very pretty, but we’d seen prettier waterfalls elsewhere, and this one is just a lot higher than most others. Next stop is Ullapool, for lunch, and to see a tiny little lighthouse.

Ardvreck Castle

At this point it was already getting somewhat late we had to decide whether we wanted to go see Hermit Castle, or not. In the end we decided against it, and took the shorter route as we had to get to our next stop before last orders for dinner at the Old School House Restaurant at 7pm. We however we did have time to wander round Ardvreck Castle.

The ruins of the house and castle have stood since the late 15th Century, with the ‘modern’ house being built in the 18th Century for the owners wife.

Finally, at the end of a long day we made it to Kinlochbervie, very tired.
